As motorists take to the roads this Memorial Day holiday, Iowa law enforcement officials are urging everyone to buckle up. Law enforcement officers will be out in full force as part of the 2013 National "Click It or Ticket" seat belt enforcement mobilization cracking down on motorists who are not belted as well as other traffic violators. While this Click It or Ticket enforcement mobilization runs from May 20 through June 2, officers are enforcing seat belt laws year-round. The Lake Park Police Department is participating in this enforcement effort.

The City of Lake Park is accepting applications for lifeguards and water safety instructors. Potential applicants must have or are able to obtain valid Iowa lifeguard certification. Water Safety Instructor certification is preferred but not required. Wage will be commensurate with experience with possible lifeguard certification course reimbursement.

Those interested are encouraged to apply at the Lake Park City Hall offices. Contact Vernette Palmer at 712-832-3527 for more information.

City recovering from ice, snow storm

The City of Lake Park continues to cleanup following an ice storm that put up to 1/2" of ice on trees and power lines, then was followed by 4 inches of heavy, wet snow. Tree branches are down all over the community and in some cases, whole trees were downed as a result of the extra weight of the ice and snow. Crews with Lake Park Municipal Utilities have been working non-stop since Tuesday repairing lines that were brought down by falling branches. LPMU's power generation system has been used as well during the storm. City crews and residents are continuing the cleanup process.

With one abstention, the Dickinson county board of supervisors this (Tues.) morning voted to approve disbursing low to moderate income housing funds generated by two tax increment finance districts in the city of Lake Park to the Lake Park Housing Authority.
