Northwestern Iowa farmer John Elser was one of the first in his area to give up the plow.
He did so in an effort to keep his soil in place. Since then, he’s cut back more and more on how much the dirt gets turned in his corn and soybean fields.
Now, he’d like to move to strip tillage in an effort to disturb as little ground as possible. What’s holding him back, though, is the investment. At 75, he’s not sure he wants to buy all new equipment.
